About the Gallery
Our Mission
The Sower Gallery exists to:
Provide a welcoming, affordable space for artists to share their work
Make fine art accessible to the local community
Offer beauty and inspiration to all who pass through the church
History
Founded in 2008, Spirit in the House began as a platform to support interfaith dialogue through the arts. The organization’s first Executive Director, Rev. Deal J. Seal, envisioned a way to build understanding across faith traditions through creative expression that is accessible, thoughtful, and deeply human.
One of our earliest initiatives, Forgiveness 360, was a video series centered on healing and reconciliation. These powerful stories have been shared across public television and community platforms.
In 2016, a new board was elected and the organization refined its mission—shifting toward the spiritual, ecological, and social evolution of our communities through Arts Ministry.
Exhibitions were paused in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, with renewed energy, new leadership, and a vision rooted in inclusion and creativity, the gallery reopened and resumed programming.
Our Current Focus
The Sower Gallery is an arts ministry located within Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church. Inspired by Van Gogh’s The Sower, the gallery is a place where seeds of creativity, compassion, and connection are scattered and nurtured.
This “fertile ground for the arts” welcomes artists and visitors of all backgrounds to experience the spiritual and communal power of creativity.
